Cook

Transform an expansive brand vision into a concise and intuitive brand narrative

Cook was a collaboration between Robert and Boy Burns Barn, a boutique design agency that we partner with frequently. We were approached by founder Adam Meek to develop a full brand platform, social strategy and design direction for the launch of his clothing brand.

The brand Cook was inspired by the explorer and scientist Captain James Cook who was one of the most daring and accomplished scientists of his age. Cook circumnavigated the globe and his contributions - both positive and negative - helped shape our understanding of cultures, astronomy, navigation and biology. Adam's vision for the brand was to bring people together over the experience of travel and how conservation and mental health factor into that activity. Our challenge was to consolidate that grand vision into an easy to understand and intuitive brand narrative.

We worked with Adam to identify his audience and then find the right tone, voice and visuals to reach that audience across multiple platforms. We then developed branded visual details such as the tag designs on the clothes which invites the owner to cut away a motivational phrase and tuck them somewhere meaningful to be found and seen when needed. Where typical tags serve as pure function, we adapted these moments to bridge the gap between product and brand goals. This brings a bespoke and human quality to the product creating an emotional bond with the garments and the experiences had in them. BBB also designed a series of patches dedicated to different moments of Captain Cook’s explorations. Each one will be a part of a different seasonal drop or product line. They each represent a different moment in Captain Cook’s story and why it matters today.
